The Most Important Word of 2012

A single word haunts me.

I hear it bellowing the halls of the dormant recesses of my mind.

It calls me to action.

It begs me to commune with others, love better and grow creatively.

It wants me to start and finish that project I’ve always wanted to produce.

I haven’t revealed the word to anyone until now. Partly because if I shared it, I would be accountable to all it entails. Alece from Grit and Glory started a new community called One Word 365.

Community provides bravery. So, here goes. . .

Intentional.

I will create . . . intentionally.

I will relate . . . intentionally.

I will teach . . . intentionally.

I will love . . . intentionally.

I will work, play, and share life . . . intentionally.

What is your one word for 2012? Be sure to share it in the comments and drop by One Word 365 as well!

  1. Wow. Last night as my wife and I were reflecting on the new year I said that 2012 is the year that I live with intention! So, yeah, I can relate to this. I’ll add another word to the mix – stillness. If there are resolutions to be had for me, one for sure is to allow space to be still a few times a day. And I’ll do it with intention.

  2. Love it! I particularly love “I will…play…intentionally.” In a world where so many people expect life to happen to them accidentally, the Intentionals will win every time.

    1. I’m stealing that word ‘intentionals.’ Love that Christine!

I may even work that into my bio… “I’m an intentionalist.” haha!

      Happy New Year Christine!

  3. I’m thinking quality. I will strive to do everything to the best of my ability in order to make this a “good” year…

  4. Great post!

I was just working on this activity last week. My word for 2012 is….. FOCUS.

Seems I can be scattered at times. Focus on the most important things in life for me right now is the goal. I have created four key focus statements. You can read them over on my blog.

    1. Hey Chris! I was thinking of that word as well. Maybe I’ll adjust mine to ‘intentional belief.’

      I like that.

  5. My word would have to be “passion”.
If I do everything with passion this year, even if I fail, I’ll know I did it to the best of my ability.
Reminds me of that old saying, “If you don’t have time to to it right, how will you have time to do it twice?”.

Throw “passion” in there, and you won’t have to do it twice. That’s my strategy for 2012, anyway.

  6. What a good and powerful word. Being intentional is so important. I have not thought about what my one word for the year is. Maybe Growth,

    Spiritual growth

    Personal growth

    Blog growth

    Growth in relationships

    Great things to think about.

    1. From the looks of your blog, your word ‘growth’ is quite apropos with all the growth you’ve had on it.

Thanks again for letting me guest post.

    1. Ah yes. That’s one of my favorite all time words! It’s also one of my favorite feelings to feel. Good one 😉

  7. Hoooo … Hmmm … “Intentional” scares me to be honest, associated as it is with an almost permanent guilt that I am not being intentional enough. I’ll be watching with interest to see how this works out for you.

It’s hard to boil things down to one word for me this year. I have been quite struck by some of Leo Babauta’s thoughts on “no goals” on the Zen Habits blog (http://zenhabits.net/achieving/) – they really strike a chord with me. I’m hoping I’ll be able to live in the moment from the core of my passions and see the “goals” take care of themselves, flowing from that.

Maybe that’s the word: FLOW. Flow towards others, seek a state of “flow” in my creative work, look to work with the grain of the things that give me life …

Thinking out loud as usual 🙂

    1. Your thinking out loud is always enjoyed, welcomed and heartily pondered! Thanks for your input.

I think ‘intentional’ could be a detriment to some personality types. For me, I need to be intentional about getting my #@$ off the couch and do something that contributes rather than consumes. These love handles happened passively… time to be intentional about ridding them… or at least not letting them grow.

Ooops, I think I thought out loud a bit too.
