How to Not Complain: 11 Tips for Staying Positive

1. Realize that work, pain and frustration are not a curse, though our attitudes can be.

2. Wear yellow.

3. Compliment liberally, criticize minimally. (Tweet this positivity!)

4. For every negative thing that’s said to you by the “Debby Downer” types, immediately turn it around to the positive.

DD: Oh well. Looks like rain today!

You: Rain is so beautiful! Don’t you love it?

DD: No.

You: Did you know your body is made up of two-thirds water? You are rain!

DD: *walks away thinking you are weird because you’re so positive*

5. Hide the friend on Facebook whose updates start with “ugh” or “rant warning” or anything that resembles something Eeyore would say.

6. Create something–give it away.

7. Limit alcohol, caffeine and sugar: they create roller-coasters emotions.

8. Volunteer. Expect nothing in return.

9. Take a trip to a 3rd world country to gain some perspective.

10. Go to a mall, grocery store or Wal-Mart and look for ways to help people–carry heavy bags, compliment someone or purchase someone’s groceries.

11. Listen instead of talking.

  1. I love your tip of hiding people on Facebook. I’ve had to do that with a few people as well. I just can’t stand constant complaining. Personally, I try to thank God as much as possible for what he has given me in life. I’m not always good at it, but I’ve noticed it’s helped. It’s hard to complain about something you’re thanking God for.

  2. Thank You! 🙂 Kind of an LOL that when I got to the bottom & read the comments, right below was “Lady Gaga’ Devastated by Bradley Manning”. I’ve noticed that the less I watch/listen/read the “news” the happier I am! 🙂

    1. I hear ya! Most “news” isn’t really news anymore. Like a sugary drink, it’s a momentary fix that doesn’t really give us any lasting nourishment.

  3. I really needed to read this today! I also use the hide feature on Facebook. Not sure about wearing the color yellow. Makes me look jaundice! (Not that I’m complaining…. )

    1. I wish I could say I had some clever reason for doing that… but…

In other news, HIRE THIS MAN! He’s an durn good editor and he cahtchs a lot of misstakes that people make ! (hope that didn’t drive you crazy Ken)
