Artist Date Vlog

Julia Cameron, author of The Artist’s Way, suggests taking yourself on artist dates. The idea is to feed and refresh your artist.

Slow down. Try something new. Revisit something old.

Bryan Allain, author of 31 Days to Finding Your Blogging Mojo, suggests doing a video blog on occasion.

Don’t edit the video. Just be you. Toss it out to your readers.

The result of taking Cameron and Allain’s suggestions are the videos below.

4 Things I Learned

+My first take is usually better than the next few.

+I apparently have a cold with all the snot-snorting I do.

+Going on an artist date while vlogging is a fantastic way to spend a Saturday morning.

+Downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania is a cool place.

    1. Hey Adam: I think that’s why I cut the video off at that point. I was thinking “where what magic happens?”

So, if you DO a vlog, post the link on this page–the ‘add your link’ buddon above.

  1. I’m SO going to steal this idea! I’ve actually thought of doing this a while ago. Maybe you stole this idea from me. If I recall correctly, I was NOT wearing a tin foil hat at the time I thought of this idea…..

  2. love it andrew!

i know those streets all too well. we’ll have to meet up for breakfast in the city some time this spring.

and I know Jason Mundok too! kind of… When I was interviewed on The LanCast a couple years ago he joined David Moulton as the co-host.

small world. (as evidenced by your hot air balloon crashing in my development).

    1. Hi Bryan, yeah the world (especially Lancaster) is indeed small. I don’t think I realized that was your development when I heard the hot air balloon story. Ha! 🙂

    2. 1. Yes, let’s do breakfast. On Orange (is … on Orange). Rachels. So much goodness.

      2. Worlds, yet again, colliding. Better than hot air ballons and houses colliding.

    1. So looking forward to it!

Kudos to you and Steve Carlson for making the platform for people to work, create and share.

  3. OK so my question is: how’d you hold the camera so still and keep it pointed at your face the whole time you were walking around? Fun stuff. hope you get your cold under control…

  4. Hahaha I love this idea. I’ve been hearing so much about The Artist’s Way lately, that I’m sure it’s a sign that I need to check it out.

    And yes, Lancaster is lovely.

    1. With all your amazing travels Lizzie, I’m honored that you’d count Lancaster among your lovely category!

And you won’t regret The Artist’s Way. Do it.

  5. Andrew,

Love that you did this. I’m thinking about doing it, too, but thanks to Resistance, I’m-a-scared!
I WILL do this sometime within the next two weeks.
You have inspired me to work past the fear…and NOT edit!

    Thanks for doing it!

  6. I’m surprised nobody’s told you yet that you remind us of a young Kenneth Branagh (not the older guy we see on My Week with Marilyn.)

You photogenic actor fellas have a definite advantage when it comes to vlogging. There is a reason I loped off my head in my avatar! If I ever do a vlog it will most certainly be aimed AWAY from me.

Coinkydinkily, I was thinking of offering podcast versions of selected posts of mine. I only ever have time now for audiobooks while I’m sewing or working out, so I would think more readers would have time to keep up with our blogs if they could multitask. What do you think? I could only do it with the posts that aren’t picture-heavy, though, and a lot of mine fall under that category.

    1. Thanks for the Kenneth Branagh compliment! If I could only land a few of the gigs he’s got 😉

I LOVE that idea of podcasting some blog posts!

Try it out and see what happens. I’d love to know if it works for you.

  7. Very nice. I loved seeing the historical monuments of downtown Lancaster, namely the tax statue lady.

Video 2- 🙂 You didn’t like “where the magic happens”? lol.

Great stuff all around. Thanks for leading out with great creativity.
