Don’t give up.
Don’t you dare quit.
We need you.
We need what’s in you and what you have to give. No one else can communicate it like you can.
No one else forms ideas like you do.
No one else creates what you create.
No one else.
No one.
So you better not quit.
When you quit, you’re not just quitting on you, you’re quitting on us. You’re quitting on what we need from you.
So you better not quit.
You better play hard and work just as hard. Or harder.
You’re an artist even if you don’t believe you’re one. Check it out:
artist |ˈärtist|
noun
• a person skilled at a particular task or occupation.
Breaking it down…
- You’re a person.
- You’re skilled. (See commandment 10)
- You do tasks.
Yup, you’re an artist.
So you better not quit.
Artists bring feeling in a world of numb.
Artists provide sight for our blind spots.
Artists quicken our senses, build bridges of connection and change culture.
So you better not quit.
Maybe you’re saying “sure sure, but what if I…”
- “Don’t have time.”
- “Tried before.”
- “Am not any good.”
But what if—
- You make time.
- You keep trying.
- You stop judging yourself.
So you better not quit.
On a personal note: I’m not a swearing guy. I never liked it when I was a kid and I still don’t like it now. I’ve probably dropped a swear word less then ten times in my whole life. That said…
You better not @#$&% quit!
Even if curse words offend you, good. You ought to feel something when reading this.
We need what only you can give.
So you better not quit.

The seventh commandment for creatives is to never give up and never give up and to never give up. Also, don’t give up.

There are days I especially need to hear this.
You bet. I need to hear it a lot as well 😉
Love the artwork for the Ten Commandments!
Yeah! Michael and Teresa Carter sent me that a while ago… a cool combination of a painting she did and his graphic design work on the words!
But what if I make time, keep trying & stop judging myself? Call me convicted. I think a lot of us need this message, and often. Thank you.
You’re welcome Jaklyn… preaching to myself as well!
Dude – I can’t begin to tell you how much I needed that, even though you posted it like 3 days ago.
I’ve been considering shutting down my blog. With my new job, I really haven’t had a lot of time for blogging or even staying up to date with reading blogs. Comments have gone WAY down and there has been more than one time where I realized I forgot to write something and just quickly threw something together to have a post.
BUT, I hadn’t given up yet and today I wrote three of what I think are the best posts I’ve written in a while. My style has changed up a bit and the topics have been more in sync with each other.
I guess the old adage is true: When you feel like you’re ready to give up, you’re just around the corner from a break through.
So glad it spoke to you Jason!
