Do What You Have to Do to Do What You Want To Do

The pathway to living our artistic dreams has a lot more “have to’s” before all the “want to’s” come to fruition.

We’ve all heard the story of the journey of a butterfly from caterpillar, to cocoon and then to emerging as a beautiful butterfly. But if that butterfly gets any assistance breaking free from the cocoon, it won’t develop the strength needed to fly.

It’s difficult to break free.
It’s not always pleasurable to toil.
It may even feel like wasted time–but we’re developing the strength to fly.

As a creative person, do you ever feel the same way?

Embracing the Strength-Building

While it may not be easy to take delight in the mundane tasks of a day job, administrative duties and spinning multiple project-plates at the same time, we’re learning, growing and training our minds to think differently.

Putting in the time on the “have to’s” creates strength, develops endurance and increases our ability to think creatively.

And then we can really soar.

  1. This is the perfect time….the perfect day and hour to receive these words into my life. I resigned from my career in early childhood education last week. (16 years of serving ) to go out on my “own” and bring music, movement, yoga (the arts) into the lives of our very youngest of people….6weeks- 5 years of age. I am hoping that they will receive these things I present and hold on to them through school….puttung the arts..music, dance, yoga (which covers a vast amount of skills,, abilities and social emotional emotional growth) and hopefully for the rest of their lives. Meanwhile I prepare…seek out places to share this. Find my own venue and clients….all the while not having a day to day job to rely on!……..This small topic you shared today will get me through at least this day, (hopefully far into the future days) and help me to be encouraged and know that I am gaining strength. You have also proven that I am not alone….others are experiencing these things as well!!!

    Thank you Andrew!

  2. You don’t know how much this encouraged me right now. I want to use this concept to describe how my creative life took off. The hard stuff has formed me and given me wings to fly.

  3. I’ve been struggling with this lately, so thank you for the encouragement to pick myself back up and get. going.
